How to Add Images to Your PhotoBiz Products

Overview

You can add one or more images to products in your PhotoBiz ECommerce to show customers what you are selling. Product images can appear with products offered through your PhotoBiz website or Client Galleries.

You can upload a new image, use an image from your image clipboard, or select a stock image from the PhotoBiz image library. You can also add a title, caption, and alt text to each product image.

This guide walks you through adding product images, arranging multiple images, and understanding how those images appear on your website and in Client Galleries.

If you have not created your product yet, see How Do I Set Up Products?.

STEP ONE

Log into your PhotoBiz account and click ECOMMERCE in the left-side menu to open the ECommerce Dashboard.

STEP TWO

Mouse over SELL ONLINE at the top of your ECommerce Dashboard and click PRODUCTS from the drop-down menu.

This opens your product list, where you can manage the products available for your PhotoBiz website and Client Galleries.

STEP THREE

Click the PRODUCT NAME for the product you want to update.

This opens the product settings where you can manage the product's name, description, price, images, Photo Requirements, and other available options.

STEP FOUR

Click IMAGE to add an image to your product. You can upload a new image, insert an image from your image clipboard, or select a stock image from the PhotoBiz image library.

You can add multiple images to the same product. The images will display in the same order they are listed in your PhotoBiz control panel.

FINAL STEP

Click an image thumbnail if you want to add or edit its title, caption, or alt text.

After your images are added and arranged in the order you want, your product is ready to display its images wherever that product is available for purchase.

Using Multiple Product Images

You can add multiple images to a single product.

Product images display in the same order they are listed in the product settings. If you want a specific image to appear first, make sure that image is listed first in your control panel.

This is especially important when you sell products through Client Galleries because Client Galleries display only the first product image.

Product Image Details

Click an image thumbnail to manage additional information associated with that image.

You can add:

  • Title: A title associated with the product image.
  • Caption: Additional text that can provide information about the image when supported by the product display.
  • Alt Text: A text description of the image that supports accessibility and can help search engines understand images displayed on public website pages.

When adding alt text, briefly describe what the image shows. Avoid keyword stuffing or repeating information that does not help someone understand the image.

Where Product Images Appear

The way your product images appear depends on where you make the product available.

Website Product Blocks

When you display products on your PhotoBiz website using a Product Block, the product detail page controls how the product's images and information are presented.

If your product contains multiple images, they display in the same order they are listed in the product settings. The exact presentation depends on the Detail Page Layout selected in your website's Design settings.

If you want to change how your product images and product details appear, see How to Customize Your Product Detail Layout.

This is an example of what a product image with a title may look like when displayed on a PhotoBiz website:

Client Gallery Products

When a product is included in a Client Gallery price list, the Client Gallery displays the first product image only.

If your product contains multiple images, make sure the image you want your Client Gallery customers to see is listed first in the product settings.

Additional product images will not display with the product in the Client Gallery shopping experience.

Product images are useful for showing examples of prints, albums, frames, cards, and other physical products before a customer places an order.

Product Images vs. Photo Requirements

Product images and Photo Requirements serve different purposes.

A product image shows customers an example or representation of the item you are selling.

Photo Requirements determine whether a customer must select one or more images from a Client Gallery for that product. For example, you may use Photo Requirements when a customer needs to select an image for a print, canvas, album, or another photo-based product.

If Photo Requirements are left blank, customers can purchase the product without selecting an image from their Client Gallery.

When Photo Requirements are used, the selected image file name and thumbnail are automatically associated with the product on the customer's order.

For more information, see How Do I Set Photo Requirements for My Products?.

Deleting Product Images

Deleting an image from a product permanently removes that image from the product.

If you need to use the image again later, you will need to upload it again unless you previously stored it on your PhotoBiz image clipboard.

Make sure you have access to the original image file before deleting a product image you may want to use again.

Helpful Tips for Product Images

Keep these recommendations in mind when adding images to your products:

  • Use clear images that accurately represent the product being sold.
  • Place your strongest or most representative image first, especially if the product will be sold through Client Galleries.
  • Keep product photography consistent when displaying several related products.
  • Avoid images that could make customers think an accessory, frame, finish, or other option is included when it is not.
  • Add descriptive alt text when product images appear on public website pages.
  • Review the product on your website or in a Client Gallery after updating its images so you can confirm what customers will see.
