How to Point Your Domain Registered with Wix to PhotoBiz Using an A Record and CNAME Record
If your domain name is registered with Wix, you can still use it with your PhotoBiz website. While we normally recommend pointing your domain to PhotoBiz by updating your name servers, Wix does not allow name server changes. Instead, you will connect your domain using DNS records (A record and CNAME record).
This guide will walk you through the steps to connect your Wix-registered domain to your PhotoBiz website.
Important Things to Know Before You Start
-
Using A records can sometimes affect features like Pay-Per-Click (PPC) tracking or how search engines crawl your site, depending on Wix’s DNS environment.
-
You will need access to your Wix account where your domain is registered.
-
You will continue renewing your domain through Wix unless you transfer it to PhotoBiz or another registrar.
-
If you would like PhotoBiz to manage your domain renewal and DNS, you can transfer your domain into your PhotoBiz account.

STEP ONE
Submit a Domain Setup Request
Log in to your PhotoBiz account.
From your control panel, submit a Domain Setup Request with the domain name you want to connect.
Our team will update your PhotoBiz account to use this domain and will send you a confirmation email when your setup is ready.
STEP TWO
Log in to Your Wix Account and Update the DNS Records
In your Wix DNS settings, add or update the following records:
| Type | Host | Value/Destination | TTL |
|---|---|---|---|
| A | @ | 18.235.135.157 | Lowest possible |
| CNAME | www | @ | Lowest possible |
Make sure there are no other A records or CNAME records in place for Wix products that could conflict with the PhotoBiz settings.
If you need help locating or editing your DNS records, check Wix’s guide: Managing DNS Records in Your Wix Account.
Notes:
- “@” refers to your root domain (example: yourdomain.com).
- TTL (Time To Live) should be set to 30 minutes.
STEP THREE
Wait for Internet Propagation
After saving your DNS updates, internet propagation can take 24–48 hours. During this time:
- Your domain will begin pointing to your PhotoBiz website.
- An SSL certificate will be automatically applied for security.
- Access to your Website Builder will be restored once propagation is complete.
Troubleshooting
If your domain does not load your PhotoBiz website after 48 hours, the issue is typically caused by DNS conflicts or propagation delays. Here are the most common fixes:
Incorrect or Extra DNS Records
Make sure there are no additional A records or CNAME entries for:
- Wix website hosting
- Wix parking pages
- Old IP addresses
- “www2” or “m” subdomains
Only the PhotoBiz A record and CNAME should remain.
Wix Not Saving DNS Updates
Wix sometimes requires you to click “Save,” “Publish,” or “Confirm Changes.” Make sure the changes are fully applied.
SSL Not Applied After 48 Hours
If your domain is correctly pointed but shows a security warning:
- Double-check that the A record and CNAME match exactly
- Remove conflicting DNS entries
- Contact PhotoBiz Support to verify your account is ready for SSL
How to Check Your DNS
You can check your DNS using any public DNS lookup tool such as:
- whatsmydns.net
- dnschecker.org
Look for the following results:
- A record for @ should show: 18.235.135.157
- CNAME for www should point to: yourdomain.com
