Using a Custom Domain Name with PhotoBiz

Overview

Your PhotoBiz account gives you flexible options for using a custom domain name with your website. All new PhotoBiz accounts start with a temporary domain, so you can build and preview your website before connecting your branded domain.

This guide explains the three most common ways to use a custom domain with PhotoBiz. You can purchase a new domain through PhotoBiz, connect a domain you already own, or transfer an existing domain registration into your PhotoBiz account.

Your Custom Domain Options

There are three main ways to use a custom domain name with your PhotoBiz website.

Option 1: Purchase a New Domain Through PhotoBiz

Choose this option if you do not already own a domain name and want to register one through your PhotoBiz account.

PhotoBiz supports new domain registrations for the following domain extensions:

  • .com
  • .net
  • .biz
  • .org
  • .info

When you purchase a domain through PhotoBiz, your domain can be connected to your PhotoBiz website and managed through your PhotoBiz account.

Cost:

  • $12 one-time registration fee
  • $3.50 per month or $42 per year for renewal, depending on your plan

Option 2: Connect an Existing Domain Registered Elsewhere

Choose this option if you already own a domain and want to keep the domain registered with your current provider.

This is common if your domain is registered with a company such as GoDaddy, Namecheap, Network Solutions, Squarespace Domains, or another domain registrar. You can connect the domain to your PhotoBiz website at no extra cost by updating the domain settings with your current registrar.

With this option, your website is hosted by PhotoBiz, but your domain registration remains with your current domain provider.

Important: If you keep your domain registered with a third-party provider, you are responsible for renewing the domain with that provider. Your domain renewal is separate from your PhotoBiz subscription.

Option 3: Transfer an Existing Domain Registration to PhotoBiz

Choose this option if you already own a domain and want PhotoBiz to manage the domain registration and renewal.

A domain transfer moves the domain registration from your current registrar into your PhotoBiz account. This allows you to manage your website and domain renewal in one place.

This option can be helpful if you want PhotoBiz to handle your domain renewal instead of keeping it with a separate domain provider.

PhotoBiz can only transfer in domains ending with .com, .org, .net, .biz, and .info.

Cost:

  • $25 one-time transfer fee
  • $3.50 per month or $42 per year for renewal, depending on your plan

Which Option Should You Choose?

If you need a new domain name, purchase a new domain through PhotoBiz.

If you already own a domain and want to keep it with your current registrar, connect your existing domain to PhotoBiz.

If you already own a domain and want PhotoBiz to manage the domain registration and renewal, transfer your domain registration to PhotoBiz.

Helpful Notes

Your temporary PhotoBiz domain remains available while you build your website. You can use it to preview your site before your custom domain is connected.

If your domain is registered with another company, that company controls your domain settings until the domain is transferred or updated. PhotoBiz can help you understand what settings need to be changed, but you may need to log in to your current domain provider to complete the setup.

Domain updates can take time to display everywhere online. This process is called propagation. In many cases, changes begin working quickly, but some updates may take up to 24 to 48 hours to fully update across the internet.

If you are not sure where your domain is registered, check your domain renewal emails, contact your previous website provider, or reach out to PhotoBiz Support for guidance.
