Overview
You can connect a domain name you already own to your PhotoBiz website by updating the domain’s name servers with your current domain registrar. This allows your domain to load your PhotoBiz website.
This guide explains what to check before changing your name servers, how to protect branded email, and what to expect after your domain setup begins. Changing your name servers does not transfer your domain registration to PhotoBiz. You will still renew your domain with your current registrar unless you transfer the domain registration into your PhotoBiz account.
Before you update your domain, make sure you have access to the account where your domain is registered.
If you use branded email, such as info@yourdomain.com, contact the PhotoBiz Support Team before changing your name servers. Your email provider’s MX records must be added to PhotoBiz first so your email continues working.
You should also disable DNSSEC if it is active on your domain. DNSSEC is a domain security setting managed by your registrar. Leaving it active during a name server change can delay the domain update or prevent your domain from connecting correctly.
We recommend completing your website layout and design before connecting your domain.
Log in to the account where your domain name is registered.
This is usually the company where you purchased the domain, such as GoDaddy, Network Solutions, Namecheap, Squarespace Domains, Cloudflare, or another domain provider.
If you are not sure where your domain is registered, you can use a WHOIS lookup tool to check.
If you do not know who your registrar is, go to https://www.misk.com/tools/#whois and enter your full domain name, including the .com, .net, .org, or other domain extension.
Click WHOIS to search for your domain registration information.
In the results, look for the Registrar field. This tells you which company manages your domain registration. If you do not recognize the registrar, check for a Reseller field. Some companies register domains through a third-party registrar.
Before changing your name servers, confirm whether your domain is used for branded email.
If you use branded email, send your email provider’s MX records to the PhotoBiz Support Team before making changes with your registrar. If you change your name servers before your email records are added to PhotoBiz, your email may stop working.
If you do not use branded email, you can continue updating your name servers.
In your domain registrar account, open the DNS or name server settings for your domain.
The exact location depends on your registrar. Look for terms such as Name Servers, Custom Name Servers, DNS Management, or Domain Settings.
Update your domain to use the PhotoBiz name servers provided in your PhotoBiz domain setup instructions or by the PhotoBiz Support Team.
Use the guide for your registrar to find the correct settings in your domain account.
If you do not see your registrar listed, contact the PhotoBiz Support Team. Support can help you confirm where your domain is registered and which domain setup method to use.
Save the name server changes with your domain registrar.
After the update is saved, your PhotoBiz website will usually go live on your domain within 24 to 48 hours. This waiting period is called propagation, which means the domain update is spreading across the internet.
Once your domain is pointing to PhotoBiz and SSL encryption is active, your website will load securely with HTTPS.
After your domain setup begins, the website preview inside your PhotoBiz control panel may be temporarily disabled. You may see a blank preview or have limited access to your Website Builder while the domain updates and the SSL certificate is generated.
This is normal. No website content, images, pages, or settings are lost during this process.
Once the domain setup is complete and SSL encryption is active, your control panel preview and Website Builder access will return to normal.
Changing name servers only points your domain to your PhotoBiz website. It does not transfer your domain registration to PhotoBiz.
If your domain registrar does not allow you to change your name servers, your domain may be connected using A records instead. Contact the PhotoBiz Support Team for the correct DNS records before making changes.
If you do not currently have branded email and would like to add it, PhotoBiz Mailbox is available as an email option for your domain.
Will changing my name servers transfer my domain to PhotoBiz?
No. Changing name servers only points your domain to your PhotoBiz website. Your domain registration stays with your current registrar unless you complete a domain transfer into your PhotoBiz account.
Will my email stop working when I change name servers?
It can if your email records are not added to PhotoBiz first. If you use branded email, send your MX records to the PhotoBiz Support Team before changing name servers.
Why does my control panel preview look blank after I submit domain setup?
This can happen while your domain is being connected and your SSL certificate is being generated. This is temporary and does not mean your website content has been deleted.
Your control panel preview and Website Builder access will return to normal once the domain setup process is complete.
How long does it take for my domain to point to PhotoBiz?
Most domains update within 24 to 48 hours. Some domains may update sooner, but propagation time depends on your registrar and internet service providers.
What should I do if my website is not live after 48 hours?
Confirm that the name servers were saved correctly with your registrar. Also confirm that DNSSEC is disabled.
If everything appears correct and the site is still not live, contact the PhotoBiz Support Team for assistance.
What should I do if my registrar does not allow name server changes?
If your domain registrar does not allow you to change your name servers, your domain can usually be connected using A records instead.
Contact the PhotoBiz Support Team or follow the registrar-specific A record guide for your provider before making changes.
