How to Change Your Domain Name with PhotoBiz
Overview
You can change the domain name connected to your PhotoBiz website by submitting a request to the PhotoBiz Support Team. This is helpful when you rebrand your business, purchase a new domain, or want your website to use a different web address.
This guide explains how to request a domain name change from your PhotoBiz control panel. It also provides a checklist of important website, branding, search, email, and account settings to review after the new domain is connected.
Prerequisites
Before submitting your request, make sure your new domain name is registered.
Your domain may be registered through PhotoBiz or through a third-party domain provider. If it is registered outside of PhotoBiz, make sure you can access the domain’s DNS settings. A PhotoBiz domain specialist will provide the DNS records you need to apply through your domain provider.
STEP ONE
Log in to your PhotoBiz account and click the black and white question mark icon in the bottom-right corner of your control panel.
This opens the PhotoBiz Assistant, where you can search for help, contact support, or create a support ticket.
STEP TWO
Scroll down in the PhotoBiz Assistant and select the option to create a support ticket.
Select Account as the product or section, and then select Domain & Email as the subject. In the description field, include your current domain name and the new domain name you want to connect to your PhotoBiz website.
FINAL STEP
Click Send to submit your request.
The PhotoBiz Support Team will review your request and follow up with the next steps. If your domain is registered outside of PhotoBiz, our team will provide the DNS settings needed to connect it to your website.
After the domain setup and SSL certificate are complete, your website will load securely at the new domain name.
Important Things to Know Before Changing Your Domain
Changing your domain updates the web address visitors use to access your website. Your new domain must be valid and registered before it can be connected to PhotoBiz.
If your domain is registered through PhotoBiz, our team can review it and help process the update. If it is registered with another provider, such as GoDaddy, Namecheap, Cloudflare, Squarespace, or another registrar, you may need to update its DNS settings through that provider.
DNS changes can take time to update across the internet. This process is commonly called DNS propagation. During this period, the new domain may work for some visitors before it works for everyone.
You may also be able to keep your previous domain connected as a secondary forwarded domain so visitors using the old address are directed to your new website. Contact the PhotoBiz Support Team to review the available setup options and any applicable fees.
What to Review After Your Domain Is Changed
After your new domain is connected, review the areas below to make sure your website, forms, email, search settings, and third-party services continue working correctly.
Review Your Branding
Click BRANDING in the left-side menu of your PhotoBiz control panel and review your business information.
Make sure the following details are accurate and reflect your current brand:
- Business name
- Website address
- Business description
- Contact information
- Logo
- Social media links
- Business location
- Service area
Update any information that still references your previous business name or domain.
Keeping your Branding information current helps maintain consistent business details throughout your PhotoBiz account. PhotoBiz AI may also use this information when helping you create website content, metadata, and schema information.
For complete instructions, see How To Update Branding Settings
Review Your Page Metadata
Metadata helps search engines understand the title, subject, and description of each page on your website. After changing your domain or business name, review the metadata for your important website pages.
To review and update a page:
Log in to PhotoBiz and click WEBSITE in the left-side menu. Select the page you want to review, and then click SEO in the upper-right corner of the page. Select the Meta Data tab in the right-side menu.
Review the page title, description, keywords, and other information for references to your previous domain or branding.
You can click Ask PhotoBiz AI to help update the metadata for your new domain name. Make sure your Branding information is current before using PhotoBiz AI, and review all generated information carefully before saving it.
Repeat this process for important pages such as:
- Home
- About
- Services
- Contact
- Location pages
- Booking pages
- ECommerce pages
For complete instructions, see Where Can I Edit My Builder’s Meta Data?
Review Your Schema Information
Schema is structured information that helps search engines understand details about your business, website, services, and location.
To review and update schema for a page:
Log in to PhotoBiz and click WEBSITE in the left-side menu. Select the page you want to review, and then click SEO in the upper-right corner of the page. Select the Schema tab in the right-side menu.
Review the schema information for references to your previous domain, business name, services, or location.
Click Ask PhotoBiz AI to help update the schema information as needed for your new domain name. Review the generated information before saving it to make sure your business name, domain, services, and location are accurate.
For complete instructions, see How to Add Schema Markup to Your PhotoBiz Website
Reconnect Google reCAPTCHA
If your forms use Google reCAPTCHA, reconnect reCAPTCHA for your new domain.
Google reCAPTCHA authorization is connected to your website’s domain. Reconnecting it helps make sure your forms continue accepting submissions and remain protected from automated spam.
After reconnecting reCAPTCHA, submit a test entry through each important form to confirm it works correctly.
Update Google Search Console
Add and verify your new domain in Google Search Console.
You may also need to:
- Submit the sitemap for the new domain
- Review the new domain for indexing issues
- Request indexing for important pages
- Review ownership verification connected to the previous domain
- Monitor search traffic and performance for the new domain
Your PhotoBiz website automatically generates an XML sitemap as you update your website. Submit the sitemap using your new domain so Google can discover and crawl your pages.
For complete instructions, see How To Submit Your Site To Google Search Console
Update Google Analytics
If you use Google Analytics, review your account settings and update any references to your previous domain.
Check your data stream, property settings, filters, events, conversions, and reports. Confirm that visits to your new domain are being recorded correctly.
Changing your domain can affect how traffic appears in your reports, especially while both the previous and new domains are active.
For complete instructions, see How To Add Google Analytics
Update External Links
Update your domain anywhere your website address appears outside of PhotoBiz.
Common places to check include:
- Social media profiles
- Email signatures
- Business cards
- Online directories
- Google Business Profile
- Blog posts
- Vendor listings
- Client resource pages
- Advertising profiles
- Printed marketing materials
- QR codes
- Booking and scheduling profiles
Updating these links helps clients reach the correct website and reduces reliance on redirects from your previous domain.
Review Email Settings
If you use a custom domain email address, such as info@yourdomain.com, your email service does not automatically move to the new domain.
Depending on your setup, you may need to:
- Create a mailbox using the new domain
- Update incoming and outgoing email settings
- Update email DNS records
- Add or update SPF, DKIM, and DMARC records
- Update your email signature
- Configure forwarding from your previous email address
- Notify clients about your new email address
If you use PhotoBiz Mailbox, contact the PhotoBiz Support Team to review your mailbox options. If you use a third-party provider, such as Google Workspace or Microsoft 365, contact that provider for the correct DNS records and mailbox setup instructions.
Do not remove the previous email configuration until you have confirmed that the new mailbox can send and receive messages successfully.
Check Internal Website Links
Review links throughout your website after the domain change.
This is especially important if you entered links using the complete website address instead of linking directly to pages through the PhotoBiz Website Builder.
Check areas such as:
- Navigation links
- Button Blocks
- Text links
- Footer links
- Blog posts
- Form confirmation messages
- Client resource pages
- Download links
- Image links
- HTML Blocks
Update any link that still uses your previous domain.
After making your changes, test important links from both a desktop computer and a mobile device.
Review Third-Party Tools
If you use third-party tools on your website, update or re-verify your domain with each service.
These tools may include:
- Meta Pixel
- Meta Business tools
- Google services
- Email marketing platforms
- Scheduling tools
- Embedded widgets
- Tracking scripts
- Domain verification services
- Advertising platforms
- Payment services
- Customer relationship management tools
Some services only allow approved domains to display embedded content or collect tracking information. They may stop working correctly until your new domain is added and verified.
Check Social Sharing Information
Test how your website appears when shared on social media or through messaging applications.
Review the page title, description, domain, and preview image. Social platforms may temporarily show cached information from your previous domain.
Make sure your page metadata and social sharing images are current before requesting an updated preview from the applicable platform.
Test Your Website
Open your new domain in a private or incognito browser window and review your website as a visitor.
Test important website features, including:
- Main navigation
- Mobile navigation
- Contact forms
- Order forms
- Contracts
- Online scheduling
- Client Galleries
- ECommerce checkout
- Buttons and links
- Downloads
- Embedded videos
- Third-party widgets
Confirm that your domain uses HTTPS and that your browser does not display a security or certificate warning.
Announce the Domain Change
Let your clients and audience know that your website address has changed.
You can announce the update through an email campaign, blog post, social media post, or client newsletter. Keep the announcement simple and include your complete new website address.
For example:
“We’ve updated our website address. You can now find us at yournewdomain.com.”
Encourage clients to update saved bookmarks and contact information. You may also want to announce any related changes to your business name or email address at the same time.
