Overview
To transfer your domain registration into your PhotoBiz account, you need an authorization code from your current domain registrar. This code may also be called an EPP code, transfer code, transfer key, or auth code.
Your current registrar is the company where your domain is registered and managed. Common registrars include GoDaddy, Network Solutions, Register.com, Squarespace Domains, and others.
This guide explains the general steps for finding your domain authorization code and preparing your domain for transfer to PhotoBiz. The exact wording may vary depending on your registrar, but most registrars follow a similar process.
PhotoBiz can only transfer in domains that end in .com, .net, .info, .biz, or .org.
Before you begin, make sure you have:
If your domain uses another extension, such as .co, .io, .photography, .studio, or another specialty extension, it cannot be transferred into PhotoBiz. You can connect that domain to your PhotoBiz website by updating the domain’s DNS settings with your current registrar.
If you are not sure where your domain is registered, you may need to search your email for domain renewal receipts or contact your current website or domain provider.
Sign in to the account where your domain is currently registered.
This is usually the company where you purchased your domain name or where your domain is currently managed. Examples include GoDaddy, Network Solutions, Register.com, Squarespace Domains, and Marathon Press.
If you are not sure where your domain is registered, search your email for domain renewal notices or receipts that include your domain name.
Go to the area where your domain names are managed.
This section may have a name such as Domain Management, My Domains, Domain Settings, Manage Domain, or Domain Portfolio.
Select the domain name you want to transfer to PhotoBiz.
Unlock your domain.
Most domains are locked by default to help prevent unauthorized transfers. Look for a setting called Domain Lock, Transfer Lock, Registrar Lock, or Domain Security.
Change the setting so the domain is unlocked and available for transfer.
If your registrar shows a DNSSEC setting, you may also need to turn it off before the transfer can begin.
Request your authorization code.
Look for an option called Authorization Code, EPP Code, Auth Code, Transfer Code, Transfer Key, Transfer Domain, or Transfer Out.
Some registrars display the code in your account right away. Others email the code to the contact email address listed on your domain registration.
Check your email for the authorization code if your registrar does not display it right away.
The message usually comes directly from your current registrar. If you do not see it, check your spam or junk folder.
Keep the code available so you can send it to PhotoBiz.
Send your authorization code to the PhotoBiz Support Team when you are ready to start your domain transfer.
Once PhotoBiz has the correct authorization code and your domain is unlocked, our team can begin the transfer request. You may also receive a confirmation email from your current registrar asking you to approve the transfer.
Your domain transfer cannot begin until the domain is unlocked and the authorization code has been provided.
Domain transfer settings vary by registrar. If you do not see the exact wording listed in this guide, look for transfer, security, lock, or authorization code settings in your domain account.
Unlocking your domain and requesting the authorization code does not automatically transfer your domain. The transfer only begins after the code is submitted to PhotoBiz and the transfer request is started.
Some registrars may prevent a domain from being transferred if it was registered, transferred, or had certain contact changes made within the last 60 days. If your registrar says your domain cannot be transferred, contact them to confirm why the domain is restricted.
PhotoBiz has transfer instructions for many popular domain registrars. If your registrar is listed in the related instructions section of this article, select the matching provider for more specific steps.
If your registrar is not listed, you can still use this guide. Most registrars use the same basic process: log in, unlock the domain, request the authorization code, then send the code to PhotoBiz.
I do not know where my domain is registered. What should I do?
Search your email for domain renewal notices, receipts, or messages that include your domain name. These emails often show the company currently managing your domain registration.
I cannot find the authorization code option.
Look for domain transfer or domain security settings in your registrar account. Some registrars hide the authorization code behind a Transfer Out option. If you still cannot find it, contact your current registrar and ask them how to get the authorization code for your domain.
I requested the code but did not receive an email.
Check the email address listed on your domain registration, then check your spam or junk folder. If the email was sent to an address you no longer use, contact your current registrar for help updating your domain contact information.
My registrar says my domain cannot be transferred.
Your domain may be locked, recently registered, recently transferred, or restricted due to a recent contact update. Ask your registrar why the domain is not eligible for transfer and what needs to be completed before it can be moved.
Can PhotoBiz transfer any domain extension?
No. PhotoBiz can only transfer in domains that end in .com, .net, .info, .biz, or .org.
If your domain uses another extension, you can keep the domain with your current registrar and connect it to your PhotoBiz website by updating your DNS settings.
