How Do I Point My Existing Domain To PhotoBiz Using Name Servers?

Using an Existing Domain Name with PhotoBiz

Overview

If you already own a domain name through another company, you can connect it to your PhotoBiz website when you are ready to launch. This process allows your existing domain, such as yourname.com, to display your PhotoBiz website.

This guide explains how to submit a domain setup request inside your PhotoBiz account. After your request is submitted, the PhotoBiz team will provide the custom name servers you need to update with your domain registrar.

By the end of this guide, you will know how to request domain setup, provide email information, and understand what happens next during the domain launch process.

If you need to purchase a new domain instead, see How to Purchase & Register a New Domain with PhotoBiz.

Important Note Before You Begin

We recommend finishing your website layout and design before starting the domain setup process.

During the domain setup process, your temporary preview link will no longer work and your Website Builder may be temporarily unavailable for 24–48 hours while your domain updates and your SSL certificate activates.

All of your website content and design work is saved during this time. Once setup is complete, access to your Website Builder and content will be restored.

If you are not ready to launch yet, the PhotoBiz team can place your site back on a temporary domain so your preview link works again.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, make sure you have access to the company where your domain name is registered. This may be a provider such as GoDaddy, Network Solutions, Namecheap, Google Domains, Squarespace Domains, or another domain registrar.

You will need access to your domain settings so you can update your name servers after PhotoBiz sends them to you.

STEP ONE

Log in to your PhotoBiz account and click DOMAINS in the left-side menu.

This opens the domain section of your PhotoBiz account, where you can manage domain setup options for your website.

STEP TWO

Click the option to use an existing domain name.

This tells PhotoBiz that you already own a domain through another provider and want to connect that domain to your PhotoBiz website.

STEP THREE

Enter the domain name you want to connect to your PhotoBiz website.

Type your domain name carefully. Make sure there are no extra spaces, spelling errors, or missing parts of the domain.

You will also be asked whether you currently use domain-based email, such as yourname@yourdomain.com.

STEP FOUR

Answer the domain-based email question.

If you select Yes, you will be asked to choose your current email provider. This may include providers such as Google Workspace, GoDaddy, Office 365, Rackspace, Network Solutions, or Other.

If you choose Other, enter the name of your current email provider.

This information helps PhotoBiz protect your branded email during the domain setup process. You will also be asked to provide an alternate email address so the PhotoBiz team can contact you if your domain-based email is temporarily affected during setup.

Do not update your name servers until PhotoBiz confirms that your email records have been added to the system. If name servers are updated too early, your email may temporarily stop working. Once the correct records are in place and the domain updates, email service is usually restored within 2–24 hours.

STEP FIVE

If you do not currently use domain-based email, select No for the email question.

If you are interested in setting up domain-based email, PhotoBiz recommends using PhotoBiz Mailbox. This allows you to create a professional email address using your domain name.

For more information, see How To Add Mailbox

FINAL STEP

Submit your domain setup request.

After your request is submitted, you will see a confirmation message. A PhotoBiz domain specialist will contact you within 24 business hours with your four custom name servers and instructions for updating them with your domain registrar.

Once you receive your name servers, log in to your domain registrar account and update the name server settings there. After the name servers are updated and the domain finishes propagating, your PhotoBiz website will display on your domain.

What Happens After You Submit Your Domain Request

After PhotoBiz receives your domain setup request, the domain team reviews your domain and email information.

You will receive your four custom PhotoBiz name servers with instructions for updating them at your domain registrar. Your domain registrar is the company where you originally purchased or manage your domain name.

Once the name servers are updated, your domain begins pointing to PhotoBiz.

Domain Propagation Timeframe

After your name servers are updated, it can take 24–48 hours for your domain to fully update worldwide. This process is called propagation.

During propagation, you or your visitors may notice:

  • Your website temporarily does not load
  • Your old website still appears
  • Your new PhotoBiz website appears for some visitors but not others
  • Domain-based email may experience brief downtime if you use branded email

This is normal during a domain update. Once propagation is complete, your domain will consistently load your PhotoBiz website.

Branded Email Notes

If you use branded email, such as yourname@yourdomain.com, PhotoBiz will ask for your email provider before sending your name servers.

This helps the domain team add the correct email records before your domain is updated. These records help keep your email connected to your provider after your domain starts pointing to PhotoBiz.

To help avoid email downtime, do not update your name servers until PhotoBiz confirms your email records are ready.
