Overview
The sales tax that appears on a PhotoBiz invoice is controlled by the Sales Tax lines you configure under ECOMMERCE → PAYMENTS → TAXES. PhotoBiz does not automatically create or determine a state, county, or local tax rate based on your client’s address.
Instead, PhotoBiz compares the client’s billing location with the Sales Tax lines you have configured. When the location matches an applicable Sales Tax line and the invoice item is marked as taxable, that configured tax can be applied to the invoice.
If state sales tax appears but an expected county tax does not, this guide walks you through checking your county-specific Sales Tax line, verifying the client’s billing information, confirming the invoice item is taxable, and updating an existing invoice when necessary.
Before you begin, make sure you have created the Sales Tax lines you intend to use under ECOMMERCE → PAYMENTS → TAXES.
For county-specific sales tax to apply to an invoice:
The client’s address does not create a tax rate by itself. If a county-specific Sales Tax line has not been configured in ECommerce, PhotoBiz will not automatically add county tax based on the client’s address.
If you have not created a county-specific Sales Tax line, see How to Set Up Different Tax Rates Per County.
Log into your PhotoBiz account and click ECOMMERCE in the left-side menu.
This opens the ECommerce Dashboard, where you can review the Sales Tax settings configured for your account.
At the top of the ECommerce Dashboard, hover over PAYMENTS and click TAXES.
Review the Sales Tax line for the county you are troubleshooting. Confirm that the country, state or province, county, and tax rate are configured as intended.
The COUNTY TAXES (OPTIONAL) setting is available when a Sales Tax line is assigned to a specific state or province. If you use different rates for multiple counties, review the Sales Tax line associated with the county on the invoice.
Click QUOTES & INVOICES in the left-side menu.
From the Quotes & Invoices dashboard, click INVOICES.
Locate the invoice where the county-specific tax is missing and click its Invoice Number to open it.
Review the contact and billing information associated with the invoice.
Compare the client’s billing country, state or province, and county with the location configured on your Sales Tax line. County-specific tax depends on the location information associated with the invoice matching the tax settings you have configured.
If the county is missing or incorrect, update the contact information and then return to the invoice.
Click EDIT on the invoice and review each line item that should be included in the sales tax calculation.
Confirm that the applicable item is marked as taxable. Sales tax will not be calculated for an invoice item that is not marked as taxable, even when the client’s billing location matches one of your configured Sales Tax lines.
If you created or changed the county-specific Sales Tax line after the invoice was created, update the affected invoice item.
Existing invoices do not automatically change simply because a Sales Tax line is later added or modified. Open the applicable invoice item, review its settings, and click UPDATE ITEM so the invoice can recalculate using the current item and tax configuration.
Repeat this process for any additional taxable items affected by the change.
Review the invoice subtotal, tax amount, and final total.
Confirm that the invoice is applying the tax settings you intended to configure before sending it to your client. If the expected county-specific tax still does not appear, compare the client’s billing location with the applicable Sales Tax line again and confirm that each affected invoice item is taxable.
PhotoBiz uses the sales tax rules you configure in your account to determine when tax should be calculated.
For county-specific tax, review the following location information:
A client being located in the correct state does not by itself confirm that a county-specific Sales Tax line will apply. The county information associated with the invoice must also match the county configuration you are using.
If you collect different tax rates in different counties, you can create Sales Tax lines based on the locations and rates you need to configure.
An existing invoice may retain the item and tax information that was in place when its items were added.
If you later change:
the existing invoice may need to be updated before the new configuration is reflected.
Open the invoice, click EDIT, select the affected item, and click UPDATE ITEM. Then review the tax calculation again.

Sales Tax settings configured through ECommerce can be used by multiple PhotoBiz tools that support taxable transactions.
Depending on your account setup, this can include:
PhotoBiz provides tools that allow you to configure sales tax rules and calculate tax based on those settings. Under the PhotoBiz Terms of Use, you are responsible for the final calculation and application of sales tax, including determining the locations, items, and rates where your business is required to collect tax.
PhotoBiz Support can assist you with using and configuring the sales tax tools in your account. PhotoBiz Support cannot determine your tax obligations or advise you which taxes or rates your business is legally required to collect.
If you have questions about your specific sales tax obligations, consult a qualified tax professional or the appropriate state or local tax authority.

Why is state sales tax showing but county sales tax is missing?
Compare the client’s billing county with the county configured on the applicable Sales Tax line.
Also confirm that the country and state or province match your tax settings and that the invoice item is marked as taxable. A state-level tax may apply while a county-specific tax does not if the county information does not match the county configuration.
Why did adding a county Sales Tax line not change my existing invoice?
Changing your Sales Tax settings does not necessarily update an invoice that already exists.
Open the invoice, click EDIT, select the affected invoice item, and click UPDATE ITEM. Then review the invoice totals again.
Why don't I see COUNTY TAXES (OPTIONAL)?
The COUNTY TAXES (OPTIONAL) setting is available when the Sales Tax line is assigned to a specific state or province.
Review the location selected on the Sales Tax line if you do not see the county setting.
Do I need to create Sales Tax lines for different counties?
PhotoBiz allows you to configure Sales Tax lines based on the locations and rates you need.
Whether your business is required to collect county-specific tax, which counties apply, and what rates you should use are tax compliance questions. Consult a qualified tax professional or the appropriate tax authority for guidance about your specific requirements.
Can PhotoBiz Support tell me which county tax rate I should charge?
PhotoBiz Support can help you locate and configure the Sales Tax settings in your account, but Support cannot determine which taxes or rates your business is legally required to collect.
Consult a qualified tax professional or the appropriate tax authority if you need guidance about your sales tax obligations.
