What Should I Expect When Updating My Domain Name Servers (Preview & Propagation Impacts)
When you request a domain setup for your PhotoBiz website, your temporary preview link will be replaced by your actual domain name. During this transition, there are a few important impacts to understand about your preview link and internet propagation.
STEP ONE
Know what happens to your preview link.
Before your domain is connected, PhotoBiz provides a temporary preview link so you can see your website online. Once we process your domain setup request:
- The preview link is no longer active.
- Your site will be tied to your actual domain name.
- Your site will not display until you update your nameservers and your SSL certificate has been generated.
All of your work remains saved in your account. If you aren’t ready to launch, our team can place your site back on a temporary domain so the preview link works again.
STEP TWO
Understand propagation and access delays.
After you update your nameservers, the changes must spread across the internet. This process is called propagation and usually takes 24–48 hours.
During propagation, you and your visitors may:
- See an connection failure or error message saying the site cannot be reached
- Still see the old version of your site on your previous host
- Experience short periods of email downtime (if you use domain-based email)
These issues are normal and will resolve automatically once propagation is complete.
STEP THREE
Follow best practices for a smooth transition.
- Plan Ahead: Schedule DNS updates during a time of lower traffic.
- Complete Site Updates First: Finalize your design and content before requesting a domain setup.
- Communicate Clearly: Let clients know there may be a short period where the site is unavailable.
- Be Patient: Propagation delays are standard and will resolve without extra action.
FINAL STEP
Launch your site with confidence.
Once your nameservers are updated and propagation finishes, your PhotoBiz site will display live on your domain with full SSL protection.
