Overview
Google Search Console is a free tool from Google that helps you understand how your website appears and performs in Google Search. You can use it to review the searches that lead people to your website, monitor clicks and impressions, check whether important pages are indexed, and identify potential search visibility issues.
This guide explains the Google Search Console reports and tools that are most useful for PhotoBiz website owners. You will learn what the most important metrics mean, how to review your website's search performance, and where to look when you have questions about indexing.
PhotoBiz is not affiliated with Google. Our Support Team can help you install or verify your Google Search Console verification code. For questions about how Google Search Console works, its reports, or how Google chooses to crawl and index your website, refer to Google Search Console Help.
Google ultimately determines which pages are crawled, indexed, and displayed in Google Search results. Using Search Console can help you understand Google's activity, but it does not guarantee that a page will be indexed or receive a specific search ranking.
Before using the reports in this guide, your website must be added and verified in Google Search Console.
If you have not completed verification yet, see How to Verify Your Website with Google Search Console.
Google Search Console and Google Analytics provide different information about your website. Using both can give you a more complete understanding of how people discover and use your site.
Because the two services measure different activity and process data differently, the numbers shown in Google Search Console and Google Analytics may not always match.

Google Search Console can help you:
Log in to Google Search Console and choose your PhotoBiz website from the property selector.
If you manage more than one website or domain in Search Console, make sure you are viewing the correct property before reviewing your reports. The information displayed in Search Console applies to the property you currently have selected.
Click Insights to see an easy-to-understand overview of your recent Google Search performance.
Insights can show changes in your clicks and impressions along with information about your top and trending content, search queries, countries, and Google Search traffic sources. This is a good place to start when you want a quick picture of how your website is performing without reviewing the more detailed reports.
Open the Performance report for Google Search to review more detailed search data for your website.
The report includes Total Clicks, Total Impressions, Average CTR, and Average Position. You can also change the date range to review performance over different periods and compare changes in your search visibility over time.
Use this report to look for overall trends instead of focusing on changes from a single day.
In the Performance report, click Queries to review the searches that caused your website to appear in Google Search results.
Queries can help you understand the words and phrases people are using when they discover your website. Look for searches that are already generating clicks as well as searches receiving impressions but fewer clicks. This information can help you identify topics and services that may be worth developing further on your website or blog.
Click Pages in the Performance report to review which pages on your website are receiving clicks and impressions from Google Search.
Use this information to identify your strongest-performing pages and watch for changes over time. A page receiving impressions is appearing in Google Search results, while clicks show that searchers selected your page and visited your website.
You can use what you learn from successful pages when improving other pages on your website.
Use the URL Inspection tool when you want information about one specific page on your website.
Enter the complete page URL into the inspection field at the top of Google Search Console. Search Console will show information about what Google currently knows about the page and whether it can appear in Google Search.
If you recently created or significantly updated an important page, you can use URL Inspection to test the page and request indexing. Requesting indexing tells Google that you would like the URL crawled again, but it does not guarantee when or whether Google will crawl or index the page.
Open the Page indexing report to review which pages Google has indexed and which pages are currently not indexed.
Not every page listed as not indexed represents a problem. Google may exclude duplicate URLs, redirected pages, alternate versions of content, or other URLs that do not need to appear separately in search results.
If an important page is not indexed, review the reason shown by Google and use URL Inspection for additional information.

Open the Sitemaps section of Google Search Console and review the sitemap information for your website.
A sitemap gives Google a structured list of URLs that can help it discover content on your website. Your PhotoBiz website provides an XML sitemap, and your PhotoBiz blog also provides an RSS feed when you publish blog content.
Submitting a sitemap tells Google where the file is located so it can be reviewed for crawling. Sitemap submission does not guarantee that every URL will be crawled, indexed, or displayed in Google Search results.
After your sitemap is submitted successfully, you can return to Search Console periodically to monitor your website's search performance and indexing.

The four primary Performance metrics are:
Average Position should not be treated as an exact ranking for every Google search. Search results can vary, and the reported number is an average across the data included in your report. Review position together with clicks, impressions, and CTR to better understand your search performance.
You do not need to review every Search Console report every day. Periodically checking the following areas can help you monitor your website:
Instead of focusing on individual numbers, look for patterns over time. You can compare date ranges to see whether search visibility is increasing or decreasing, identify pages gaining more impressions, and find search queries that are beginning to bring visitors to your website.
Search Console can also help you identify content opportunities. For example, if one of your photography services is receiving impressions for a particular search but few clicks, you may want to review the page title, description, content, and how well the page answers what those searchers are looking for.
Search Console provides information about your Google Search performance. It does not guarantee higher rankings, additional traffic, or indexing.
Why don't I see much data yet?
If you recently verified your website with Google Search Console, it may take time for Google to collect and display meaningful search data. A newer website or a website receiving limited Google Search visibility may also have less data available.
Make sure you are viewing the correct Search Console property before troubleshooting missing information.
Why doesn't Search Console match Google Analytics?
Google Search Console and Google Analytics measure different types of activity. Search Console focuses primarily on your website's visibility and activity within Google Search, while Google Analytics measures activity on your website after visitors arrive.
It is normal for the numbers in these two services to differ.
Does Request Indexing guarantee my page will appear on Google?
No. Requesting indexing lets Google know that you would like a URL crawled or reviewed again. Google determines whether and when the page is crawled and indexed.
Why does Google say one of my pages is not indexed?
There are many reasons a URL may not be indexed, and some are completely normal. Review the reason listed in the Page indexing report before making changes.
